The numbers from the town
| Item | 2025 report |
|---|---|
| Disinfectant | Chlorine and chloramines |
| Highest running annual average | 3.93 ppm |
| Range of individual samples | 3.0 to 4.7 ppm |
| MRDL | 4 ppm |
The report explains that the level shown is a running annual average of monthly averages, computed quarterly, and that the range covers all individual samples taken during the year.
Why plain carbon may struggle
Chloramine is more stable than free chlorine, which is exactly why utilities use it: it lasts through miles of pipe. That same stability means a basic carbon pitcher, fridge filter or shower cartridge may not have enough contact time to handle it well, especially at Lantana's residual. Systems built for chloramine use media designed for it, such as catalytic carbon, with enough volume for your flow. See choosing a filter for chloramine.
Certification to look for
- NSF/ANSI 42 includes a chloramine reduction claim separate from chlorine. Make sure chloramine is listed for the exact model.
- Check the rated capacity in gallons; performance applies only within it.
- Match the model number on the certifier's listing, not just the brand.
Living Water describes its Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring whole-home systems as removing chloramine and chlorine. Ask Jorge for the specifications of any model he recommends.
Aquariums, ponds and dialysis
Chloramine does not evaporate out of standing water the way free chlorine can. If you keep fish or a pond, use a water conditioner made for chloramine. Anyone using home dialysis should follow their provider's instructions about water treatment.
Whole-home or kitchen only
If the smell in the shower bothers you, treat the whole house with a whole-home system. If you mainly care about drinking water, an under-sink RO with carbon stages covers the kitchen tap. Many households start with one and add the other later.
If you are on Lake Worth Beach water
Some addresses with a Lantana mailing address, like Lantana Cascade, are served by Lake Worth Beach, which also uses chloramines and switches to free chlorine for a few weeks at a time. See chloramine filters in Lake Worth Beach. Jorge measures total chlorine at your tap either way. Call, text or WhatsApp Jorge at (305) 793-5974.
