What the town's report shows
Lantana's Annual Water Quality Report says the EPA requires monitoring of more than 80 drinking water contaminants and that those in its table are the only ones detected. The 2025 table includes nitrate, nitrite, total phosphorus, disinfectant, disinfection byproducts and lead and copper. Fluoride is not on it. If you want a specific figure for fluoride at your address, ask the Utilities office at 561-540-5750 or use a certified lab.
What changed in Florida in 2025
The Florida Legislature passed SB 700 in 2025. It prohibits adding to a public water supply any additive that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality, and it took effect July 1, 2025. The Senate's bill summary explains the change. We do not take a position on fluoride; this page covers facts and options.
How fluoride is reduced at home
- Reverse osmosis: the most common home method. Look for NSF/ANSI 58 certification listing fluoride reduction for the exact model.
- Activated alumina: used in some dedicated fluoride filters; check certification and replacement schedules.
- Standard carbon filters: generally not designed for fluoride.
Do you need a fluoride filter?
Many Lantana households who ask about fluoride turn out to want better-tasting drinking water overall, mainly without the chloramine taste. An under-sink alkaline RO handles that and lowers dissolved solids generally. If fluoride specifically matters to you, the certification is what to check. For questions about fluoride and health, talk with your doctor or dentist.
Addresses on another utility
If your Lantana mailing address is actually served by Lake Worth Beach, that city's 2025 report lists fluoride at 0.05 ppm. See fluoride in Lake Worth Beach. Private wells are covered by neither report; a certified lab test shows a well's natural fluoride level. See well water in Lantana.
If you choose RO for this reason
Ask three things: does the exact model carry a certification that lists fluoride reduction, how often are the membrane and filters replaced, and what does the alkaline stage add back. RO removes many dissolved minerals along with fluoride, which is why Living Water's units remineralize for taste. With Lantana's chloramine residual, also ask how the carbon pre-filter protects the membrane. Compare in alkaline vs. standard RO.
