The biggest driver: what your water actually needs
Most Miami homes are on Miami-Dade WASD city water, which is already treated and softened at the plant. That often means you need less equipment than a generic package assumes. A test can show, for example, that chloramine taste is your main issue and hardness is not, which keeps a softener off the quote. On a private well, the opposite can happen, with more stages needed. The test result shapes the quote more than anything else.
Home type and installation access
| Miami home type | What affects the installation |
|---|---|
| High-rise condo (Brickell, Downtown, Edgewater) | Usually under-sink RO only. Building rules, service elevator scheduling and cabinet space can matter. |
| Older single-family house | Where the main line enters, its condition and material, and how much re-piping is needed to connect a system. |
| Townhome | Access to the main line and what the association allows on the exterior. |
| Business (restaurant, gym, laundry) | Water volume, number of fixtures served and equipment being protected. |
Other things that move the number
- System type and size: whole-home filtration, softener, under-sink RO or a combination, sized to household water use and bathrooms.
- Plumbing extras: bypass valves, a drain line, an electrical outlet nearby, or a new faucet opening in a stone countertop.
- Outdoor installation: equipment mounted outside may need a protected spot.
- Permits or association approval where they apply.
- Removing old equipment left by a previous owner.
What an itemized quote should show
- The exact equipment, model and number of stages.
- Installation labor and any plumbing or electrical work.
- What is included at installation and what is not.
- Filter or media replacement schedule and what each replacement involves.
- Warranty terms for equipment and installation.

Ownership costs to ask about
The purchase is only part of it. Ask how often filters or media are replaced, whether a softener needs salt, how much water an RO system sends to the drain, and whether any part needs periodic service. Our guides on owning a whole-home filter and RO operating costs list the questions.
Financing: Living Water offers financing through its financing partners. You apply with a credit application, and a co-applicant can apply with you. See questions to ask before you apply.
