What PFAS are
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are used in non-stick cookware, water-resistant fabrics, packaging and some firefighting foams. They break down very slowly in the environment. EPA's PFAS pages explain the federal drinking water rules and timelines.
What Seacoast reported
Seacoast's 2025 Water Quality Report includes a table of unregulated contaminants for its water treatment plants and distribution system. PFAS samples from January 2024 and July 2024 are listed as ND, not detected, with a reference level of 4.0 ng/L. The report adds that Seacoast's reverse osmosis and nanofiltration processes will remove these contaminants. That is Seacoast's statement about its own plant.
Western service area
Seacoast West-Consecutive buys water from Palm Beach County Water Utilities, so PFAS data for that water comes from the county's reports, not from Seacoast's Hood Road plant. If you are not sure which area you are in, call Seacoast Customer Service at 561-627-2920.
Reading tables like this: ND means the compound was not found above the method's reporting limit, and results are often reported in nanograms per liter, which is the same as parts per trillion. For questions about Seacoast's sampling, its Laboratory Supervisor can be reached at 561-627-2900, extension 1685. EPA also publishes UCMR 5 results by water system.
Choosing a PFAS filter
- Look for NSF/ANSI 53 (filters) or NSF/ANSI 58 (reverse osmosis) certification listing PFOA and PFOS reduction.
- Match the exact model number on the certifier's listing.
- Replace cartridges on schedule; claims apply only within rated capacity.
Living Water does not claim its systems remove PFAS. Jorge will tell you to check the certification of any model, including anything he shows you.
Testing and private wells
PFAS testing needs a certified lab using EPA methods. Jorge's free screening covers chloramine, hardness, TDS, pH and iron, not PFAS. A private well is not covered by any utility data, so a lab test is the only way to know. See home screening vs. lab analysis.
If you choose a certified filter anyway, replace cartridges on time; an exhausted cartridge does not deliver its rated performance.
