RO after a membrane plant
Seacoast uses nanofiltration and low-pressure reverse osmosis at its Hood Road plant, then disinfects with chloramine at about 3.7 ppm. An under-sink RO repeats the membrane step on the few gallons you drink, but its most noticeable work on Seacoast water is the carbon pre-filtration that reduces chloramine taste and smell. It also reduces the sodium in the water, listed at 35.5 ppm in the 2025 report.
It is also a practical option for condo owners and renters, since it installs under one sink without changes to the main plumbing.
The stages
- Sediment filter for particles from pipes and fittings.
- Carbon pre-filters for chloramine, which also protect the membrane.
- RO membrane for dissolved solids.
- Alkaline stage to add minerals back and raise pH.
- Polishing filter before the faucet.
See the compact alkaline RO.
Why the alkaline stage matters more here
Water that has been through a membrane twice, once at the plant and once under your sink, has very little mineral content left. Some people find that taste flat. The alkaline stage adds minerals back after the membrane. Compare in alkaline vs. standard RO.
Fitting it in
- Cabinet space for the unit and, on tank models, the tank.
- A faucet hole in the sink or counter; stone tops may need professional drilling.
- A drain connection.
- An optional line to the fridge and ice maker.
Compare tankless vs. tank RO.
Certification for specific concerns
RO systems are certified under NSF/ANSI 58 for particular contaminants. If you are buying for a specific concern, check that the exact model's listing names it. See PFAS filters and fluoride filters in Palm Beach Gardens.
RO or whole-home?
If the chloramine smell bothers you in the shower as well as in the glass, a whole-home system covers every tap; RO covers one. Many households choose one or the other first and add the second later.
If you choose RO first, Jorge can still test your shower water during the same visit so you have the numbers for later.
Next step
Jorge tests TDS and chloramine at your kitchen tap so you can see what RO would change, then gives an itemized quote after the free test. See RO cost drivers.
