The facts, briefly
- Who decided: the Florida Legislature, through SB 700, signed May 15, 2025, effective July 1, 2025.
- What Hollywood did: ended fluoride use as of July 1, 2025, and said its fluoridation equipment will be repurposed.
- What the county reports: 0.12 ppm for 3BC, against a 4 ppm limit.
The change applies statewide to public water systems, so it is not specific to Pembroke Park or Hollywood.
Reducing fluoride at home
Reverse osmosis is the most common household method for drinking and cooking water. Standard carbon filters, including most whole-home carbon systems, generally do not target fluoride. Whatever you choose, confirm the exact model lists fluoride reduction. See under-sink RO.
RO makes water more slowly than a normal faucet and sends some to drain, so match the model's daily output to your household.
Staying neutral
We do not take a side on fluoride. Hollywood's page suggests that residents who want fluoride ask their healthcare provider about options. Questions about teeth belong with your dentist.
Minerals after RO
RO reduces most dissolved minerals. Living Water's alkaline RO adds some back for taste. Compare alkaline and standard RO.
Before you buy
- Is the fluoride claim on the certifier's listing for this exact model?
- How much water per day does it make?
- Which stages must be replaced to keep performance?
If you also want chloramine reduced at the kitchen tap, an RO with chloramine-capable carbon handles both goals in one unit.
Why the reports look mixed
Annual reports cover a whole year. Hollywood's 2025 report still describes fluoridation in its treatment summary because fluoride was added during the first half of the year, while its fluoride page confirms use ended July 1, 2025. Broward County's 3BC figure reflects its sampling period. Expect future reports to show only naturally occurring fluoride from the source water.
Where to read the numbers
The 3BC column of Broward County's 2025 Water Quality Report lists fluoride with its sampling dates. If the City of Hallandale Beach serves your address, read its report instead.
