What happens inside the unit
- Sediment filter: catches particles from mains and pipes.
- Carbon: reduces chloramine, which would otherwise damage the membrane.
- RO membrane: reduces dissolved solids.
- Alkaline stage: adds minerals back.
- Polishing filter: last step before the faucet.
The order matters: the carbon must come before the membrane, because chloramine can damage RO membranes over time.
Good fits in Pembroke Park
- Apartments and rentals, with the owner's permission.
- Manufactured homes, where main-line work is harder.
- Offices, shops and warehouses with a break room sink.
- Houses, often alongside a whole-home system.
Install checklist
- Room in the cabinet for the unit and tank, if any.
- A drain line to connect to.
- A spot for the faucet.
- Adequate water pressure.
- An optional line to the refrigerator.
- A working shutoff valve under the sink.
Hollywood already uses RO. Why add one?
Part of Hollywood's supply, the brackish Floridan water, is treated with reverse osmosis at the plant. But it is blended with lime-softened Biscayne water, chloramine is added for the trip through the pipes, and your building's plumbing has its own effect. A kitchen RO is the final step at the point you drink. See the compact alkaline RO.
Upkeep
Each stage has its own replacement schedule. Carbon stages work against chloramine, so they matter most. Ask for the schedule and parts in writing. See RO filter replacement cost.
A good habit: write the install date on each cartridge, so anyone in the household can see when the next change is due.
Tank or tankless
Tank systems store filtered water so a full glass comes quickly; they need cabinet room for the tank. Tankless systems make water on demand and save space, which helps in compact kitchens. Each has its own pressure and electrical needs. Compare in tankless vs. tank RO and ask Jorge which suits your cabinet.
