Step 1: confirm who serves you
Check your water bill. Broward County WWS customers read the 3BC column of the county's 2025 Water Quality Report. If your bill comes from the City of Hallandale Beach, use that city's report instead. The two are different utilities with different treatment.
If you are not sure, Broward County WWS (954-831-3250) can confirm whether your address is one of its accounts.
Step 2: the in-home screening
- Total and free chlorine: the chloramine residual at your tap.
- Hardness.
- TDS.
- pH.
- Iron, when there are stains or a well.
Each reading takes a few minutes, and Jorge shows you the result as he goes, so you are not waiting for a report.
Step 3: compare with the report
For 3BC in 2025, the county lists chlorine (as chloramine residual) at 3.1 ppm, fluoride at 0.12 ppm and sodium at 33.5 ppm, plus lead and copper results from tap sampling. Your reading reflects your street, your pipes and how long water sat before the test. Differences are normal; big ones are worth asking about.
If a reading surprises you, Jorge will retest, and he will tell you whether it is worth calling the county at 954-831-3250.
When a certified lab is the right tool
- Bacteria, especially on a well.
- Lead, if your plumbing or fixtures are old.
- PFAS and other specific contaminants.
See home screening vs. lab analysis.
Testing for a business
For restaurants, shops and offices, Jorge tests at the point where water matters: the kitchen, the break room, or the line feeding equipment. Bring equipment manuals so the readings can be compared with the maker's limits.
Commercial readings are compared with the same 3BC report, plus the limits your equipment makers publish.
Before Jorge arrives
- Have a recent water bill nearby.
- Note what bothers you and when: smell, taste, spots, stains.
- List any filters, softeners or wells on the property.
- Do not run the tap for a long time beforehand.
