PEMBROKE PINES · HARD WATER SPOTS

Hard Water Spots & Scale in Pembroke Pines

Spots on shower doors, glasses and faucets are minerals left behind when water dries. Pembroke Pines softens its Biscayne Aquifer water at the plant, so heavy scale is less common on city water, but spotting still happens. If your tap test shows real hardness, an ion-exchange softener is the reliable fix; if not, wiping glass and treating outdoor sprinkler water may matter more. Jorge tests hardness free.

Spots, film or scale?

What you seeUsual cause
Faint rings on glass that wipe offEvaporation of any water
Chalky film on dishesHardness or detergent dosing
Hard crust in kettles, aerators, shower headsHardness building up over time
Spots on outside windows and carsSprinkler water, often from an irrigation well

A simple check: if a kettle grows a crust within weeks, test for hardness. If glass shows faint rings that wipe away, evaporation is the main factor and a softener may not change much.

What the city already does

The City of Pembroke Pines' 2025 Water Quality Report describes Biscayne Aquifer well water, drawn from 90 to 144 feet, that is softened and filtered before disinfection. Plant softening lowers hardness for the whole system. The report does not list hardness at individual addresses, so your tap result is what counts.

Remember that sodium, measured at 16.4 parts per million in the city's report, does not cause scale; calcium and magnesium do. A hardness test focuses on those minerals specifically.

When a softener is the answer

  • Your test shows hardness high enough to cause scale.
  • You draw water from a private well.
  • You run a business with heaters, dishwashers or ice machines.

Living Water installs ion-exchange softeners, which remove calcium and magnesium. See softeners in Pembroke Pines and what drives softener cost.

Living Water installs ion-exchange softening plants for businesses too, from restaurants to laundries, where scale on heating equipment costs money.

Softener vs. conditioner

Salt-free conditioners aim to change how minerals behave but leave them in the water, so spots on glass generally remain. Ion-exchange softeners remove them. Compare in salt-free conditioner vs. ion-exchange softener.

When comparing quotes, make sure both are for the same type of equipment.

Outdoor spotting

Many Pembroke Pines homes and communities irrigate with well or lake water. If spots appear mainly on sliding doors, screens, windows and cars, check where the sprinklers aim and what water feeds them before buying an indoor softener. Irrigation water skips city treatment and can carry minerals and iron; see rust stains.

Everyday upkeep

  • Squeegee shower glass after use.
  • Use a dishwasher rinse aid.
  • Soak aerators and shower heads in vinegar.
  • Use an RO tap for spot-free drinking glasses and coffee makers.

For outdoor glass and cars, wash and dry in the shade and avoid letting sprinkler water dry on surfaces in the sun.

Common questions

Is Pembroke Pines water hard?

The city softens it at the plant. Test your tap to know your level.

Why do I still see spots?

Any water leaves minerals when it evaporates. Wiping glass helps.

Will a softener remove spots?

It greatly reduces them when hardness is the cause.

Do salt-free conditioners prevent spots?

Conditioners leave hardness minerals in the water, so glass spotting generally remains.

How do I test hardness?

Does vinegar remove scale?

Soaking aerators and shower heads in white vinegar dissolves scale. Check manufacturer guidance for special finishes.
