PINECREST · DRINKING WATER

Best Drinking Water System for a Pinecrest Home

For Pinecrest homes on WASD county water, the best drinking water system for most families is an under-sink reverse osmosis unit with carbon suited to chloramine: it handles the disinfectant taste and lowers dissolved minerals at the tap you drink from. For homes on private wells, the Village's advice comes first: test regularly at a certified lab, then build treatment from the results, with RO as the final drinking water stage.

The options

OptionGood forLimits
PitcherSmall households, rentersSmall cartridges; check every claim
Fridge filterConvenienceShort contact; many list chlorine only
Under-sink alkaline ROFamilies who cook and drink at homeNeeds cabinet space, faucet, drain
Whole-home filterChloramine at every tap and showerDoes not lower dissolved solids like RO

County water homes

  • Chloramine from WASD, 2.5 ppm on the main system in 2025.
  • No added fluoride since June 6, 2025.
  • Lime softening at the Orr plant.
  • PFAS results published in WASD's report.

Most families choose under-sink RO, often with a whole-home filter for showers.

Some households also keep a pitcher in the fridge filled from the RO tap for convenience, which is fine because the RO already did the treatment.

Well homes

The Village says well owners are responsible for their water, lists historical incidents of arsenic, solvents, nitrate and dieldrin in the area, and recommends regular testing for coliform bacteria, nitrates, TDS and pH. A pitcher or fridge filter is not a plan for that. Lab-test first; then choose treatment certified for anything on your report, with bacteria handled separately. RO comes last, for drinking and cooking. See well water in Pinecrest.

How to choose

  1. Name the goal: taste, a specific contaminant or replacing bottled water.
  2. Check certification on the exact model: NSF/ANSI 42 for chloramine taste and odor; 53 or 58 for health-related claims such as PFOA, PFOS, arsenic or nitrate.
  3. Match capacity to how much your household drinks and cooks.
  4. Get the maintenance schedule in writing.

Living Water's option

Living Water installs a multi-stage alkaline reverse osmosis system under the sink with a dedicated faucet. It does not claim to remove PFAS. Compare in whole-house vs. under-sink filters. Call, text or WhatsApp Jorge at (305) 793-5974.

For renters, a certified pitcher or countertop unit is portable. For owners, an under-sink RO is permanent and serves the whole family. For offices and gyms along US-1, the same alkaline RO can replace a delivery service at one sink. In every case, a written maintenance schedule keeps the system performing as certified.

Common questions

What is the best drinking water system for Pinecrest?

On county water, usually an under-sink RO with chloramine-suited carbon. On a well, lab-test first, then RO as the last stage.

Is a pitcher enough for well water?

No. Test at a certified lab and choose treatment from the results.

Can RO reduce arsenic or nitrate?

Some models are certified for them. Check the exact model's NSF/ANSI 58 listing.

Does alkaline RO have health benefits?

Living Water makes no health claims; the alkaline stage raises pH for taste.

Can I see the difference?

We just connected to county water. Do we still need a drinking water system?

County water meets standards. Many families add RO for taste and lower dissolved solids.
