What moves the number
| Driver | Why |
|---|---|
| System type | RO, whole-home, softener or a combination |
| Chloramine | WASD's disinfectant needs adequate media and contact time |
| Home size | Bathrooms and people set flow and media life |
| Plumbing | Main line access, bypass, any rerouting |
| Drain | Needed for softeners and backwashing filters |
West Miami-specific details also count: where the city meter sits relative to the house, whether irrigation runs off the same line (often better left unfiltered), and whether the home has had plumbing updates that change pipe sizes. Each can add or remove work.
What you probably do not need
WASD's Alexander Orr, Jr. plant lime-softens the water that serves most of West Miami, so many homes do not need a softener; a quote that includes one without a hardness test deserves a question. Homes on city water also do not need well treatment. Jorge's quote shows the test numbers it is built on.
The opposite mistake happens too: a small cartridge system on a busy household that runs out of capacity quickly. Sizing from your test and fixtures avoids both.
If you already own equipment, such as an older softener or a filter that came with the house, Jorge can test water before and after it. Sometimes the right move is servicing what you have, not replacing it.
Itemized quote checklist
- Exact models and certification listings.
- Labor and materials.
- Plumbing changes in writing.
- Maintenance schedule and part costs.
- Warranty for equipment and labor.
See why quotes differ.
Ask whether the quote includes a post-installation test, haul-away, and a walkthrough of the bypass valve so you know how to isolate the system.
After installation
- Cartridges and membranes for RO.
- Media replacement on whole-home systems.
- Salt for a softener, if you add one.
- Optional service visits.
Read annual cost of owning a whole-home filter.
Ask for each ongoing item in writing, with its interval, before you sign.
Businesses
Restaurants and shops along SW 8 Street and Coral Way are quoted on daily gallons, peak demand and the equipment protected. Expect each treated line to be named.
