WEST MIAMI · WHOLE-HOME

Whole-Home Water Filtration in West Miami

A whole-home filter in West Miami goes on the line from the city meter and reduces chloramine taste and smell at every faucet, shower and appliance. The water itself comes from Miami-Dade WASD, which disinfects with chloramine, so the system needs media built and sized for chloramine, usually catalytic carbon. It is a comfort upgrade on water that met all federal, state and local standards in 2025, per the city's report. Jorge tests free and sizes it to your home.

What you notice after installation

  • Showers without the chemical smell in the steam.
  • Neutral-tasting water from every tap, including bathrooms.
  • Ice, coffee and cooking water that start from the same filtered supply.

It does not remove hardness or lower dissolved solids; those are separate stages if your test shows a need.

Appliances benefit too. Dishwashers, washing machines and ice makers all draw from the same filtered supply, and the water heater fills with water that has less disinfectant odor, which some people notice in hot showers more than cold.

Built for chloramine

WASD adds chlorine, then ammonia, forming chloramine that lasts through miles of pipe. Its 2025 report lists a main-system running annual average of 2.5 ppm. West Miami's own table reports the residual under "chlorine" with individual results of 1.5 to 2.2 ppm. Either way, a whole-home system for this water should be sized for chloramine's slower reaction on carbon, with enough media for your peak flow.

Living Water's Puronics whole-home systems, the Clarius iGen and Goodspring, are described by Living Water as removing chloramine and chlorine.

Sizing for a West Miami home

FactorWhat Jorge checks
Bathrooms and fixturesPeak flow when several run at once
Household sizeDaily gallons and media life
Meter location and main lineWhere the system and bypass can go
Drain accessFor backwashing models
Irrigation on the same lineOften better left unfiltered

A system sized too small saves money up front but lets chloramine through at peak times and exhausts its media faster. A system sized too large costs more without adding benefit. Jorge sizes from your actual fixtures and household, then explains the media life you should expect.

Disinfection byproducts

West Miami's 2025 report lists TTHM at 37.13 ppb and HAA5 at 15.75 ppb, well under limits of 80 and 60. If you want to reduce byproducts at home, choose a model whose certification lists that reduction specifically.

Whole-home vs. drinking water

Many families pair whole-home filtration with an under-sink alkaline RO in the kitchen. If drinking water is your only concern, the RO alone may be the better first step. See whole-house filtration vs. RO.

Renting? A whole-home system on the main line needs the owner's approval. An under-sink RO is often the easier choice for tenants.

Common questions

Does West Miami water need whole-home filtration?

Not to meet standards. It is about chloramine taste, smell and comfort.

Does plain carbon work on chloramine?

Slowly. Catalytic carbon and correct sizing are typically used.

Will it lower water pressure?

A correctly sized system should not noticeably.

Can it go outdoors?

Often near the meter line, in a protected spot.

Does it soften water?

No. Softening is separate, and WASD's Orr plant already lime-softens.

Will it remove the chlorine smell from my hot water?

It reduces chloramine before the water heater, so hot water starts from filtered water.
