What Weston's water brings to your main line
The City of Weston buys its water from the City of Sunrise. It starts in Biscayne Aquifer wells 70 to 90 feet deep, goes through membrane softening at the Sawgrass Water Treatment Plant, and then chlorine and ammonia are added to form chloramines. Chloramine lasts longer in the pipes than free chlorine, which is useful for the utility, and it is also why the taste can follow the water all the way to your shower.
Why chloramine changes the filter choice
Standard carbon removes free chlorine quickly, but chloramine is more stable. Filters that handle it well typically use catalytic carbon and give the water more contact time. Living Water's city water systems use Puronics equipment, including the Clarius iGen and Goodspring lines, which Living Water describes as removing chloramine and chlorine. For any contaminant claim beyond that, check the exact model's NSF/ANSI certification.
Background on the chemistry is in the chloramine filter guide.
Sizing for Weston homes
Many Weston homes are larger single-family houses with several bathrooms, a pool, and outdoor showers or kitchens. That means more simultaneous flow than a typical townhome. Jorge checks:
- Number of bathrooms and people at peak times.
- Main line size and where it enters, often the garage or a side yard.
- Whether the irrigation line splits off before the house (it usually should stay unfiltered).
- HOA rules about equipment visible from the street, common in Weston's gated communities.
What it will not do
- It does not replace the city's treatment; Weston's water already meets standards.
- It does not soften water. Weston's water is membrane-softened at the plant, so a softener is often unnecessary anyway.
- It does not treat lake or well water used for irrigation.
For drinking water, many homeowners add under-sink alkaline RO at the kitchen.
Bonaventure homes
The Bonaventure area is serviced by the City of Sunrise directly rather than through Weston's system. Sunrise publishes separate reports for its Sawgrass, Southwest and Springtree service areas, and all of them describe chloramine disinfection (chlorine and ammonia). A whole-home system for chloramine fits either way, but Jorge tests your tap to confirm.
