Your meters tell the sizing story
Bal Harbour reads meters monthly and separates domestic water from irrigation water, which is billed without a sewer charge and requires a certified backflow preventer. For a house, the domestic meter history shows exactly how much water a whole-home system would treat, which drives tank size and how often media is replaced. Ask the installer to size from that history, not a rule of thumb.
For tower units, the domestic meter usually belongs to the building, so sizing an under-sink system is based on your household's drinking and cooking use instead, which is far smaller and simpler to estimate.
Chloramine affects equipment choice
The Village's 2025 data sheet lists chloramines at 2.5 ppm. Media designed for chloramine needs enough contact time, so whole-home systems must be sized to peak flow, and RO pre-filters must suit chloramine. Cheaper equipment that is undersized or uses ordinary carbon can cost more over time through early replacements.
Installation items to expect
- Association requirements in towers: insurance certificates, work hours, management notice.
- Countertop drilling for a dedicated RO faucet in stone.
- Replacing an old under-sink shutoff valve.
- For houses: shaded or enclosed placement, storm securing, bypass valve and drain.
None of these items change the equipment itself; they change labor and scheduling, which is why two quotes for the same model can differ.
