HIALEAH GARDENS · WATER SOFTENERS

Water Softeners in Hialeah Gardens

Hialeah Gardens' water is softened at Miami-Dade's treatment plants before the city delivers it, so many homes do not need a softener just for drinking water. A softener makes sense when a test at your tap still shows enough hardness to leave spots and scale, or for businesses where scale damages equipment. Jorge Canela tests hardness free at your home and tells you plainly whether you need one.

What the county already does

WASD's 2025 Water Quality Report describes lime treatment at the Hialeah plant to reduce hardness, and an enhanced softening process at the John E. Preston plant. Those two plants generally serve homes north of SW 8 Street, which includes Hialeah Gardens. Lime softening lowers hardness, but it does not take it to zero, and the water can pick up differences as it moves through miles of pipe.

Signs you might still want one

  • White crust on faucet aerators and showerheads that keeps coming back.
  • Spots on glass shower doors and dishes even with rinse aid.
  • A tank water heater that rumbles or loses efficiency.
  • A business with dishwashers, ice machines, steamers or washers that scale up.

These signs can also come from evaporation or other factors, so a hardness reading at your tap decides it. See hard water spots in Hialeah Gardens.

How an ion-exchange softener works

Water passes through resin beads that trade calcium and magnesium for sodium or potassium. When the resin fills up, the system regenerates with a salt brine and flushes the minerals down the drain. Living Water offers ion-exchange softening plants for homes and for businesses such as restaurants, laundries, gyms, schools, offices and car washes.

A softener is not a chloramine filter. If you also want the disinfectant taste gone, the softener is paired with a carbon stage, as in a city water system.

Businesses along the main corridors

Hialeah Gardens has restaurants, bakeries, salons and laundromats in its shopping centers and warehouse districts. For them, scale is a maintenance and energy issue. A commercial softener is sized from the hardness reading and daily water use,, so the right size depends on how many machines and how much hot water the business runs. Ask for the regeneration schedule and salt use in writing so you can plan maintenance.

Questions to ask

  • What hardness did the test show at my tap?
  • How is the softener sized, and how often will it regenerate?
  • Where will the brine drain go?
  • Do I need a separate drinking water tap? Many people pair a softener with under-sink RO.

Common questions

Is Hialeah Gardens water hard?

Miami-Dade softens it at its plants, so it is softer than raw aquifer water. How much hardness reaches your tap is what Jorge measures.

Will a softener remove chloramine?

No. Softening and chloramine removal are different jobs; a carbon stage handles chloramine.

Can a restaurant in Hialeah Gardens use a softener?

Yes. Living Water offers ion-exchange softening plants for restaurants and other businesses, sized after a test.

Does softened water taste salty?

Softened water carries a small amount of added sodium. Many households drink from a separate RO tap instead.

How much does a softener cost?

It depends on size and setup. Jorge gives you an itemized quote after the free test.
