The biggest cost driver: your building
| Home type | Typical scope |
|---|---|
| Condo unit | Under-sink RO, maybe shower filters |
| Townhome with own line | Kitchen RO, possibly whole-home with association approval |
| Single-family house | Whole-home chlorine filtration, often plus kitchen RO |
Townhomes sit in between: some have their own main line and space for a tank, others share plumbing with neighbors. Jorge confirms which before quoting anything.
What does not drive cost here
In many South Florida cities, a quote includes a softener because the water is hard. The Town of Highland Beach says its reverse osmosis plant cut hardness by about 90 percent, so a softener is rarely part of a sensible quote here. If someone proposes one, ask to see the hardness reading from your tap.
Factors that move the number
- Disinfectant handled: the town normally uses free chlorine; a system also rated for chloramine covers its maintenance periods.
- Flow rate and bathrooms for whole-home sizing.
- Installation location: garage, closet or outdoors in salt air, and the protection that needs.
- Plumbing changes: bypass valves, drain access, electrical.
- Permits and association approvals where required.
Ongoing costs to ask about
Ask how often each filter or media is replaced, what each replacement includes, whether service visits are included, and what the warranty covers. See annual cost of owning a whole-home filter.
Financing
Living Water offers financing through its financing partners. You apply with a credit application, and a co-applicant can apply with you.
Condo associations and timing
In Highland Beach, association rules can affect cost and schedule as much as equipment does. Some buildings require licensed plumbers, certificates of insurance, approved work hours or leak sensors under sinks. Ask your management office what is required before you book, and share it with Jorge so the quote reflects it. Part-year residents should also plan installation for when someone can be in the unit to sign off.
