The biggest driver: house or unit
| Home | Typical scope | Main cost drivers |
|---|---|---|
| Single-family house | Whole-home plus kitchen RO | System size, plumbing changes, equipment location |
| Townhome or villa | Whole-home if there is a line and space | Access to the main, space |
| Condo unit | Under-sink RO | Stages, faucet, fridge line, building requirements |
Townhomes and villas fall in between: some have their own shutoff and space for equipment, others share lines. A site look settles it.
Chloramine sizing
WASD water arrives with chloramine, 2.5 ppm for the main system in 2025. Chloramine needs more contact time than free chlorine, so a whole-home system has to be sized to your peak flow. An undersized system is cheaper on day one and disappointing in the shower. Ask how the system was sized.
Island-specific installation items
- Outdoor equipment protection from sun and salt air.
- Raised or protected placement where flooding is a concern.
- Rerouting plumbing in older homes.
- In condos: association requirements, insurance certificates and work-hour rules, which can affect scheduling.
Ownership costs to ask about
- Media or cartridge replacement intervals.
- RO filter and membrane change schedule.
- Whether service visits are included.
- Warranty terms in writing.

What a fair quote should list
Two quotes for "a water filter" can describe very different jobs, so ask for one that names everything. A useful Key Biscayne quote lists:
- The exact equipment model and its listed capacity.
- The test results it was based on, including the chloramine reading at your tap.
- Every installation item: plumbing changes, bypass valve, drain line, faucet, fridge line, equipment pad or enclosure.
- Who handles association paperwork for a condo, if any is needed.
- The filter and media change schedule for the first years.
- What the warranty covers, in writing.
It should not include health promises, claims that WASD water is not drinkable, or pressure to sign the same day. A quote built this way lets you compare like with like. Read how to compare water treatment quotes.
For seasonal residents, add one more line: what happens to the system while you are away. Closing valves and flushing on return costs little and protects filters.
