The system itself
- Number of stages. More pre- and post-filters add cost and change what the system addresses.
- Alkaline remineralization. Living Water's under-sink systems are alkaline RO, which adds minerals back after the membrane. See alkaline vs. standard RO.
- Tank or tankless. The storage design affects cabinet space and price; compare them in tankless vs. tank RO.
- Faucet finish. A dedicated drinking faucet comes standard; upgraded finishes change the price.
- Certifications. Ask which NSF/ANSI listings the exact model carries.
Miami install factors
Miami's housing stock swings from new towers in Brickell and Edgewater to older single-family houses in neighborhoods like Shenandoah and Little Havana. That range shows up in install work:
- Cabinet space, which is tight in many condo kitchens.
- Countertop material, since drilling stone or quartz for the faucet takes more care than using an existing hole.
- Drain and supply access, especially in older houses with original plumbing.
- Building rules. Condo associations may set hours or contractor requirements. Ask before you schedule.
- Refrigerator or ice-maker line, if you want RO water there too.
Ongoing costs to ask about
The purchase is only part of the picture. Before signing, ask:
- Which filters need replacing and how often, based on your household's use?
- How long the membrane typically lasts on your water?
- Whether replacement filters are standard or proprietary.
- Whether service visits are included or billed separately.
Miami's water is disinfected with chloramine, which carbon pre-filters have to deal with before it reaches the membrane, so ask how the pre-filters are sized for that. More on this in RO maintenance and operating costs.
