Start from the City's report
- Chloramine, 2.0 ppm average: carbon stages rated for chloramine handle taste and odor.
- Fluoride, 0.39 to 0.76 ppm in early 2025: RO is the common method if you want less.
- Sodium, 30.0 ppm: RO reduces dissolved salts.
- Lead: no lead service lines identified, but older fixtures vary; look for a lead claim if that matters to you.
- PFAS: not covered in the 2025 report; see PFAS filters in North Lauderdale.
The options
| Option | Strength | Limit with City water |
|---|---|---|
| Pitcher | Cheap to start | Often rated for chlorine, not chloramine |
| Fridge filter | Convenient | Small cartridge, limited claims |
| Under-sink alkaline RO | Broadest claims, own faucet | Cabinet space, filter schedule |
| Whole-home filter | Chloramine at every tap | Not a drinking water system alone |
Why RO fits most homes
RO pairs carbon stages, for chloramine and taste, with a membrane that holds back most dissolved solids. Living Water's system adds an alkaline remineralizing stage for taste and runs to its own faucet, so drinking water, cooking water and ice all come from one place. See under-sink RO in North Lauderdale and carbon vs. RO.
Villa, condo or house
In a villa, condo or apartment, under-sink RO is usually the full answer, since it stays under one sink. In a detached house, many families pair a whole-home filter for showers and laundry with RO at the kitchen.
Questions before you buy
- Is the carbon stage rated for chloramine?
- What claims are on the exact model's NSF/ANSI listing?
- How often are cartridges changed, and what does a change involve?
- Does it need a new faucet hole or a fridge line?
- What does the warranty cover?
Whatever you choose, the listing is what counts, not the box. Change filters on schedule.
Living with the system
A good drinking water system should be easy to own. Ask how you will know a filter is due, whether cartridges twist off without tools, and whether the faucet has an indicator. In a household that drinks a lot of water, filters may come due sooner than the box suggests. Keep the schedule on the fridge.
