Why Sunrise households add RO
Sunrise water is softened and disinfected with chloramine at the city's plants. It meets drinking water standards. People add RO for the glass: to drop the chlorine-like taste, to reduce total dissolved solids, and to stop buying bottled water. RO is also a common method for reducing fluoride, and some models are certified for other specific contaminants; check the exact model's NSF/ANSI 58 listing.
Pre-filters matter with chloramine
RO membranes do not like chlorine or chloramine. That is why RO systems use carbon pre-filters in front of the membrane. With Sunrise's 2025 chloramine averages of 3.3 to 3.5 ppm across the service areas, ask how the pre-filter is rated for chloramine and how often it is changed. A worn pre-filter shortens membrane life.
How Living Water's alkaline RO is built
- Sediment and carbon pre-filtration.
- A reverse osmosis membrane.
- A remineralization or alkaline stage after the membrane.
- A dedicated faucet at the sink.
See the compact alkaline RO page and alkaline vs. standard RO.
Fitting it in a Sunrise kitchen
Jorge checks cabinet space, the drain connection, whether a faucet hole exists or the countertop needs drilling, and whether you want a line to the refrigerator. In condos, it is worth checking your association's rules on plumbing changes. Tank and tankless designs fit differently; see tankless vs. tank RO.
During the spring chlorine switch
When Sunrise moves to free chlorine for a few weeks each spring, an RO system keeps working; the carbon pre-filter handles chlorine. If your water looks discolored during flushing, run the cold tap until it clears before using the RO faucet.
Costs and upkeep
Filter and membrane changes are the main ongoing cost. See reverse osmosis cost in Sunrise and RO maintenance and operating costs.
Which Sunrise homes benefit most
RO is the most flexible system for Sunrise because it works the same in a condo, a townhouse or a house, whether your water comes from Springtree, Sawgrass or Southwest. It is especially popular with households that buy a lot of bottled water, people who cook with a lot of water, and offices or gyms that want a filtered water station. If you also want showers and laundry without chloramine, pair it with a whole-home system.
Maintenance in plain terms.
Change the pre-filters on schedule, since they protect the membrane from Sunrise's chloramine; change the membrane when production or taste drops; and replace the post-filter or alkaline cartridge as listed for your model. Write the dates on the housings so you are never guessing.
