SUNRISE · WHOLE-HOME FILTRATION

Whole-Home Water Filtration in Sunrise

A whole-home system treats water where it enters your house, so every shower, sink and appliance gets the same filtered water. In Sunrise, the main target is the chloramine the City of Sunrise Utilities Department adds for disinfection, plus taste and odor. Living Water installs Puronics city water systems that it describes as removing chlorine and chloramine, after a free in-home test confirms it is the right fit.

What a whole-home system is solving in Sunrise

Sunrise water starts in the Biscayne Aquifer and is softened at the Springtree, Sawgrass or Southwest plant before chlorine and ammonia are added. The 2025 reports show chloramine running annual averages between 3.3 and 3.5 parts per million across the three service areas, below the regulatory maximum of 4.0. That residual is there on purpose, to protect water in the pipes. Once it reaches your house, a whole-home system can take it out so showers and laundry do not carry the smell.

Why plant matters less than you think

Homes in the Sawgrass area get membrane-softened water; Springtree and Southwest homes get lime-softened water. Both are disinfected the same way, so the chloramine question is the same everywhere in Sunrise. What can differ is how the water behaves at the fixtures, which is why Jorge tests at your tap rather than going by the map alone.

What is inside a city water system

Living Water's whole-home options use Puronics equipment, a manufacturer since 1947:

  • Clarius iGen and Goodspring systems: described by Living Water as removing chloramine and chlorine for the whole house.
  • Optional softening stage: only if your test shows hardness that justifies it.
  • Kitchen drinking water: many homeowners add an under-sink alkaline RO for drinking and cooking.

See the city water system page for details.

Installation in a Sunrise house

The system goes on the main line after the meter, usually in the garage or on an exterior wall, with a bypass valve so water keeps flowing during service. Before quoting, Jorge looks at where your main line enters, available space and drain access, and whether your home has an irrigation line that should stay unfiltered. Irrigation water does not need chloramine removal, and leaving it off the system saves capacity.

During the spring free-chlorine period

Each spring Sunrise switches temporarily from chloramine to free chlorine for pipe maintenance; in 2026 that was April 27 through May 25. A whole-home carbon-based system keeps working on chlorine during those weeks. If you notice any discoloration, the city suggests running faucets to clear it, and its dispatcher is at (954) 888-6087, ext. 3.

Before you buy

  • Ask which contaminants the exact model is certified to reduce, and under which NSF/ANSI standard.
  • Ask how the media is replaced or serviced and how often.
  • Get an itemized quote that separates equipment, installation and plumbing changes.

For price drivers, see water filtration cost in Sunrise and annual ownership cost.

Living with the system

Once installed, a whole-home system mostly runs on its own. Ask how media replacement or service is scheduled, keep the bypass valve accessible, and note the install date. Financing is available through Living Water's financing partners.

Common questions

Do I need whole-home filtration in Sunrise?

Not to meet standards; the city's water already does. Most people choose it for chloramine taste and odor at every tap, in showers and in laundry.

Will it remove chloramine?

Living Water describes its Puronics Clarius iGen and Goodspring city systems as removing chlorine and chloramine. Check the exact model's certifications for any specific contaminant.

Does a whole-home system soften water too?

Only if it includes a softening stage. Jorge checks hardness at your tap first so you only pay for what you need.

Should I filter my irrigation line?

Usually not. Irrigation water does not need chloramine removal, so it is commonly left on the bypass side.
