Scope by home type
| Home | Usual scope | What moves the price |
|---|---|---|
| Single-family house | Whole-home plus kitchen RO | System size, plumbing changes, irrigation bypass, location |
| Condo or apartment unit | Under-sink RO | Stages, faucet, fridge line, leak protection, building paperwork |
| Restaurant, hotel, gym | Commercial filtration or softening | Water use, equipment, tested hardness |
Chloramine affects sizing
The water the Town buys from WASD carries chloramine, 2.5 ppm for WASD's main system in 2025. Media designed for chloramine needs enough contact time, so a whole-home system must be sized to your peak flow. An undersized system costs less up front and wears out faster. Ask how it was sized, and whether your sprinkler line is plumbed to bypass it.
Surfside installation items
- Outdoor enclosures or shade near the beach.
- Narrow side yards that limit equipment placement.
- Older plumbing that needs rerouting.
- In buildings: insurance certificates, work-hour limits and management notice.
- Countertop drilling for a dedicated RO faucet.
Older single-family homes sometimes need a new shutoff or a short section of pipe replaced before equipment goes in; a site look catches that before the quote, not after.
Ongoing costs to ask about
- Media or cartridge replacement intervals at your use.
- RO pre-filter, membrane and alkaline cartridge schedule.
- Whether service visits are included.
- Warranty terms in writing.
Your Eye On Water usage data from the Town helps estimate filter life, since capacity is measured in gallons. See annual cost of owning a whole-home filter.
What a fair quote shows
A useful quote names the exact model, the test results it was based on, every installation item, and the filter schedule. It does not include health promises, claims that Surfside's water is not drinkable, or same-day pressure. Compare quotes with how to compare water treatment quotes and read why quotes differ.
Commercial properties
Surfside's hotels, restaurants and gyms need a different kind of quote. Scope starts with daily water use, which your Town meter records, then the equipment you want to protect and the taste goals for drinks and food. Ask for the design basis in writing: flow, tested chloramine and hardness, and the service schedule. A commercial system sized from real numbers avoids paying for capacity you never use.
