The biggest driver: your type of home
- Oceanfront and A1A condos: the choice is usually an under-sink RO system, so the comparison is between models and options.
- Single-family homes and villas: a whole-home chloramine system, often with kitchen RO, is the main decision.
- Businesses: sizing follows daily water use and the equipment being protected.
Other price drivers
- Chloramine level and flow: both suppliers use chloramine, and a system sized for your peak flow costs more than an undersized one, but works.
- Installation location: salt air, shade, access and enclosure.
- Plumbing: main line size, bypass valves, drain and electrical access.
- Extras: refrigerator line, alkaline stage, tankless RO.
Costs you may be able to skip
Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach both soften water at the plant, and Pompano reports hardness typically at 1 to 2 grains. If a quote bundles a softener for a home on city water without a measured hardness reading, ask why. That one question can change the total.
What a good quote lists
- Exact model numbers and what each stage is rated for.
- Installation work, parts and any permits.
- Filter and cartridge replacement schedule.
- Warranty terms in writing.

Ownership costs to ask about
Ask how often each filter is replaced, what replacement parts cost and whether anything needs a service visit. Higher chloramine and heavy use shorten carbon life. Read the annual ownership guide.
Two homes, two different quotes
A tenth-floor condo on the ocean and a single-story house west of A1A can both want better water, but the work is not comparable. The condo is a cabinet install, priced by the RO model and options. The house may need a main-line system, a protected outdoor location and a kitchen RO. Comparing a condo neighbor's quote with a house quote tells you little; compare like for like.
