Driver one: your source
| Source | Typical project |
|---|---|
| Coconut Creek (Broward County 2A) | Whole-home chloramine filter and/or RO |
| NSID | Whole-home chloramine filter and/or RO; softening rarely needed |
| Parkland Utilities, Inc. | Decided by its report and a tap test |
| Private well | Multi-stage system: sediment, iron and sulfur, softening, RO |
Driver two: the size of the home
Parkland homes are often large, with many bathrooms and high peak demand. A whole-home system has to be sized so chloramine gets enough contact time when several fixtures run at once. Bigger houses usually mean bigger media tanks, which affects both the price and how often media is replaced.
Pool fill lines, outdoor kitchens and guest houses add branches to the plumbing; deciding which ones the system should serve is part of the design.
Driver three: plumbing layout
- Where the main line enters, and whether irrigation branches off before the treatment point.
- Pool fill lines and outdoor kitchens.
- Garage or exterior space for equipment and a bypass valve.
- On a well: pump, pressure tank and drain location for backwashing.
What a complete quote shows
- Exact model numbers and certification listings.
- Installation items: bypass, fittings, drain, electrical.
- Replacement schedule for cartridges, media or membranes; salt if any.
- Warranty terms in writing.
- What is excluded.

Questions for a public-water home
If you are on Coconut Creek or NSID water and a quote includes a softener, iron filter or UV, ask which test result justifies each one. NSID water is membrane-treated and Broward County water is lime-softened, so those extras are uncommon on public water. On a well, the opposite is true: a single-stage quote may be too simple. See well water treatment cost in Florida.
Ownership costs to ask about
Ask how often each cartridge, media tank or membrane is replaced at your household's usage, whether anything needs salt, and what a service visit includes. Large homes use more water, so media in a whole-home system is typically replaced on a schedule that reflects that. On a well system, each stage has its own maintenance, and backwashing uses water and needs a drain. See the annual cost of owning a whole-home filter for the questions to ask.
