Start with what the city already removes
The City of Hollywood treats Biscayne Aquifer water with lime softening and membrane filtration, and brackish Floridan Aquifer water with reverse osmosis, then adds chloramines. That has a direct effect on your quote: if your tap test shows little hardness, you can skip a softener and spend only on what fixes your actual issue, usually chloramine taste and odor or drinking water quality.
The main things that move the price
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| System type | Whole-home filtration, under-sink RO, a softener or a combination are very different projects. |
| Sizing | More bathrooms and people mean higher flow, which needs more media for chloramine contact time. |
| Plumbing access | Where the main line enters, the age of the pipes and any rerouting needed. |
| Location | Garage, side yard or utility closet; outdoor installs may need protection from sun and sprinklers. |
| Building rules | Beach condos and HOA communities may limit what you can install and where. |
| Water source | A private well needs a system configured from that well's test, which often means more stages. |
Typical Hollywood scenarios
- Beach condo: usually just an under-sink RO at the kitchen sink. Simple plumbing, but building rules may affect scheduling.
- Hollywood Hills ranch home: a whole-home chloramine system plus RO is common; older plumbing can add install time.
- Larger home in Emerald Hills or Hollywood Lakes: more bathrooms mean a larger whole-home system for the flow.
- Home with an irrigation well: iron treatment on the sprinkler line is a separate project from indoor filtration.
Each is quoted separately after testing, because the same system label can mean very different work.
What a fair quote should list
- The exact equipment model and what it is designed and certified to treat.
- Installation labor, materials and any bypass valve.
- Permits, if the work requires them.
- Ongoing costs: filter or media replacement, salt for softeners, service visits.
- Warranty terms for equipment and labor.

Ownership costs to ask about
The purchase is only part of it. Ask how often cartridges or media are replaced, what replacement parts cost, how much water an RO system sends to drain, and whether service visits are included. Those answers matter as much as the upfront number.
