- Refrigerator or ice maker line, and the distance it runs.
- Building logistics. Downtown and waterfront condo towers often have rules on contractor access, parking and hours, which can affect scheduling.
Part 3: upkeep
RO is a maintained system. Ask:
- How often each filter and the membrane is replaced.
- What shortens the schedule. West Palm Beach's chloramine residual, with a 2025 highest annual average of 3.2 ppm, is handled by the carbon pre-filter, which also protects the membrane.
- Whether a whole-home filter upstream would reduce wear on the RO pre-filter.
- How much water goes to drain per gallon produced.

Is RO what you need?
If your only complaint is the chloramine taste, a carbon filter certified for chloramine might do. RO adds dissolved-solids reduction; the city's 2025 report lists total dissolved solids of 243 ppm from January 2025 sampling, and RO will lower what reaches your glass. Questions that save money later
- Can the system feed the refrigerator and ice maker too, so you do not pay for separate fridge cartridges?
- Are replacement filters standard sizes or proprietary?
- What happens if the faucet or a fitting leaks after install?
- Is the drain connection set up so reject water does not back up?
